Since being founded in 1963 by Ado Pennesi, Copen has carefully developed a proud reputation. We have become recognised and respected on the international apparel markets for our unwavering approach, for our dedication to our Heritage, Production Strengths and Brands.
Our heritage is one of family values and a fierce loyalty to craft. These inform and enrich our outlook on the world, our dealings with customers, in fact all of our daily business lives.
Ado Penessi began working with his father Angelo, in Civitanova Marche as a cloth merchant in 1963. Then, having worked with his brother Marino in his retail outlets for several years the brothers created Diffusion Pennesi to wholesale clothes. This naturally and successfully evolved and by 1978 into producing fine menswear under the Nudokrudo and Pennesi labels.
From this foundation and through many years of energetic working, Ado has developed both a rich and enthusiastic knowledge of fabrics and garment production processes and an insight into how trends successfully develop in the global marketplace.
Along the way Ado, through the Penessi Collections, has enjoyed some memorable moments.
From the first licenses with a young Alexander Mcqueen for four formative seasons after his St Martins Graduation. To the production of Gianfranco Ferrè and of Alexander Dell' Aqua for several of their most influential seasons. To producing Alviero Martini’s
collection and the celebrated sponsorship of both the Juventus and InterMilano football teams. Ground breaking sales in international recognised boutiques has also been a satisfaction. In particular those in US and Japan.
The recent opening of our new HQ has also marked a turning point for the company. Inspired by their newly designed home, we have decided to leave behind the world of mass distribution and concentrate on their own brands, Ado’s son Pier Paolo stepped in as brand co-ordinator, taking care of all the steps in building an internationally successful company.
